Tourist Information Takes Off

One of the objectives of Visit Belfast’s visitor servicing strategy is to leverage the value of the high-quality interactive tourism content that was produced for the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre project, by making it more widely available throughout Northern Ireland. As part of this ongoing plan, Visit Belfast have installed tourist information pods at key visitor entry points throughout Northern Ireland, including at Belfast International Airport. Legato were asked to supply and install a large interactive touchscreen device to form the centrepiece of the new pod.

The system we provided is a modern, innovative and efficient way of delivering up-to-date visitor information on the latest events, transport, accommodation and attractions in Belfast and Northern Ireland. As with all our digital signage systems, it is fully networked, allowing content to be easily updated by Visit Belfast staff. Content is cached locally on the device, ensuring that information remains accessible in the event of network downtime. Health status of the system can be monitored remotely and software updates applied without user intervention. The systems also collect usage information for analysis by Visit Belfast.

Travellers with Timetables!

The system is location-aware and can provide tourists with accurate information about travel times to nearby attractions. Users can also use the system to create itineraries which can then be sent to their email addresses. Much of the information pod’s content can be viewed in seven foreign languages in addition to English.

At Legato, we know that Northern Ireland has a rich array of attractions and we’re proud that we’re helping our friends over at Belfast International Airport to welcome over 4 million passengers every year!
